Trust In God Requires Our Complete Focus

Trust In God Requires Our Complete Focus

No matter what we do in life we should be doing it for the sight of one, God. We must rid ourselves of ego in our work. Our work is just one way in which we can serve others. Our highest calling is to love and to love is to serve. Doing for others and not ourselves shows love in action for one another. When we are working for God and not others we can do our work with a full heart. Oftentimes we work for recognition and praise from others. This is a faulty way to go as it will never bring sustained fulfillment. With work we all want to be fulfilled. We want to know we have purpose. Our purpose has always been to be with God. This is why doing our work for Him is the most assured way we can gain the wholeness of purpose in what we do. God will guide us in the directions He needs us when we work only for Him. In this way we are in tune to His callings on our lives and are able to hear His nudges should our path veer.

Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for their wrongs, and there is no favoritism.

‭‭‭‭Colossians 3:22-25 NIV

God is always with us. The sooner we accept this fact the better off we will be. This is a concept that can help us every moment of the day. We do not have to wait until we are in hard times to call on Him. In fact, we should not wait. When we practice calling on Him in all things; good, bad, mundane, indifferent, etc; we prepare ourselves to not just call on Him, but also to rely on Him when we need Him most. Knowing this verse can be an incredible mantra as we walk through our days and the enemy tries to tell us lies. In these words, God tells us He will be with us no matter what. When we are with God no one and nothing can come against us and win. Let us not let the world tell us what our outcomes are. Let us put our focus on God for our outcomes and let the noise of the world fade into the background.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

Isaiah 43:2 NIV‬‬

A Story of Trust With Focus:

The days can be hard. Especially when you battle feeling lazy, when every moment of your day isn’t planned out and accounted for with action and productivity. The enemy often tells me that my laziness is my worth. It can be extremely defeating.

A less focused me just a couple of years ago, would have found every possible thing I could to fill my time. My focus is on God now. He has been walking with me through the fire daily. I hear the voice of condemnation that I am not doing enough everyday. My reaction is different now.

With my focus on God, I trust in where I am at. I find peace in the slower pace. It’s not that I don’t still struggle, but I know who to turn to in each moment of struggle. I am leaning into the waiting and trusting in what God has for me. Now is not my time to be busy. The world would have me get distracted with more things. For now I will continue to find contentment in the slow down with His help.

Considerations for your planner:

  • Who do you work for? Write down what motivates you and see how you can give that to God.
  • Do you trust that God is always with you? Write down something you do not feel like you need Him in and then ask Him to help.
