What’s on the Inside?

What’s on the Inside?

It is incredible to take note of what God looks for. He does not look for the things that the world looks for. He looks deeper. He wants us to care for and nurture our inner selves with more attention than anything else.

Unfortunately, the world can distract us with pretty things that can seem to be fulfilling, although that fulfillment is always fleeting. We can be driven by comparing what we have to what others have. This is a futile endeavor.

He is calling us to look within. He wants us to have a gentle and quiet spirit. This is not attainable until we let go of the external things that surround us.

We need to let go of our obsession with how we physically present to others. Our obsession must be with how we carry ourselves and interact with others. In this way His Spirit will shine through to others and we are able to rest in just being.

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.

1 Peter 3:3-4 NIV

Considerations for your planner:

  • How are you looking inward? Take a moment to write out the habits of your heart just as you would lay out an outfit for the day.

A Prayer for Our Community:

Father, Help us to be present in all we do. Help us to know that You have called us to serve one another and not become preoccupied with getting or showing off. We need Your strength to turn away from comparisons. We want to cultivate the strength of Your Spirit from within. We no longer want to show off our false sense of accomplishment with our external adornments. Thank You for meeting us where we are at. Amen.
