Alert Expectancy Keeps Us On Track

Alert Expectancy Keeps Us On Track

There’s more to come: We continue to shout our praise even when we’re hemmed in with troubles, because we know how troubles can develop passionate patience in us, and how that patience in turn forges the tempered steel of virtue, keeping us alert for whatever God will do next. In alert expectancy such as this, we’re never left feeling shortchanged. Quite the contrary—we can’t round up enough containers to hold everything God generously pours into our lives through the Holy Spirit! ‭‭

Romans 5:3-5 MSG

Although we should be living in the present as much as humanly possible, “there is more to come.” Remembering that there is more to come is how we continue to shout our praise in the midst of our circumstances. We can stand confident that everything happening is developing us.

We are in constant need of development to live out the fruits of the spirit. (Galatians 5:22-23) The world is always trying to mold us into its way of doing things. However, when we rest in the knowledge that there is more to come we have a desire to stick with things which inturn grows our patience and keeps us alert to what God is doing.

Staying in alert expectancy will keep us filled. We do not have to feel like something has been left unseen or unattended to. The opposite is true. God cannot wait to pour out His generosity into our lives.

We must stay mindful to not become distracted by our fleshly feelings of disappointment or resentment of our circumstances. Resetting our focus onto Him and away from our troubles is how we stay the course. We can trust that all things are being worked out for our good. (Romans 8:28)

Considerations for your planner:

  • Are you staying alert in expectancy of what God is doing in your life today? Write out exactly where your focus is.

A Prayer for Our Community:

God, Help us to refocus today. It is so hard. Our flesh is incredibly strong. But we know You are stronger. We want to set our sights on the more that is to come. Let us not be so consumed by our circumstances that we forget to look ahead. We want to be well developed in passionate patience and tempered virtue. We do not want to be lacking or deficient in any way. Help us to simply praise You in the midst of it all. Amen.
